Introduction
Interest and scientist-professional relevance
The society needs technicians and investigators capable of making use of the resources that the Nature offers to the man, to obtain and to transform products of the forest surfaces of a sustainable way. To carry out this work, it were thought before these technicians that they had to direct the developments, with the only target to obtain the maximum production, the maximum productiveness in the transformed products and the biggest economic benefits. But, according to the conclusions of the 5th Conference of the International Consortium in Agriculture and related Sciences of Europe, which took place in Weinestepham (Germany) in 2001 (“ Perspectives for Higher Education in the Sciences applied to Agriculture, Food and Nature ”), to modernize the curricula and the programs of research of the EU, it was necessary that a change was doing in the systems of handling of the products and forest systems, developing a sustainable production and a protection of the environment. In the teaching of the master 6 departments of the UdL participate. The implied teachers are members of 10 groups of investigation of the forest ambience, between whom there are 6 Consolidated Groups of Generalitat de Catalunya, they take part in 11 projects in the last triennium (without taking into account the passes in the year 2006), the majority with financing of competitive international and national calls and they have been the directors of 12 doctoral thesis. Also there is foreseen the participation of investigators and professionals of not university institutions, who develop his activity in proper matters of the master. Between them we can quote to: CTFC, IRTA, CSIC, CREAF, Centres of Propietat Forestal, Departament d'Agricultura, Ramaderia i Pesca, Departament de Medi Ambient i Habitatge, INIA and services of agrarian, forest and environmental investigation of the different autonomous regions.
Professional opportunities
The logical continuation for the
students of this master is the completion of the Doctoral Thesis in any of the related doctoral
programs. The acquired education will permit them also to work as researchers in the business and
university sectors
